5 TIPS TO SURVIVING WORK LIFE BALANCE AS A MOM

Work life balance…what in the heck? Does it really exist? Maybe in some parallel universe, they’ve figured it out. I, on the other hand, have found a way to survive. I don’t know if anyone truly finds balance. Honestly, I feel I am always lacking in one area. If I am Super Mom, I am a mediocre wife and business owner – or vice versa. Every single day is a constant juggle of what is most important and just going from there. Although I have not figured out the true meaning of “balance,” I’ve picked up a few pointers along the way.

MOM

DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP

The perfectionist in my soul compels me to pick apart every aspect of my life for the better. When it comes to being a mom, wife, business owner or friend, I am always looking to be the best version of myself. Recently though, I have found trying to be all that for everyone is just flat-out exhausting, but more importantly –IMPOSSIBLE. So, if the laundry needs to be run through a couple times because you forgot to put it in the dryer – eh, who cares? Run it through (again) and go on with your bad self. No one is perfect, even if we all try to be.

MOM

SCHEDULE

Schedules…I used to dread them and I hated having something that I had to do. However, once I was served a buffet worthy full plate, having a schedule allowed me to feel calm in the midst of the storm. Prioritizing what needs to be done first, and scheduling phone calls or alone time during my kids’ naps. The tyrannical black board in the kitchen lists specific chores to be done on certain days. I designed it so my house is not a complete disaster. Having a schedule is essential to anyone, but when you have a lot to do, it can help you get your life in order.

MOM

ASK FOR HELP

If you plan on surviving, you need a team of people you trust. I hate (actually I loathe) asking anyone for anything. I am an independent woman (que sassy snaps) and I like to do things myself. My inner circle of people are the types I can always rely on- thank you baby Jesus. The deep trust I have for each of them really makes life easier. We need to remember it is okay to ask for help, even if it’s hard. You will be better in all areas of your life when you do.

MOM

VENT

Life can be a whirlwind of cray-cray and when our minds top out on stress, we need to vent. Guy, girl or in-between somewhere, we all have feelings and we all need to unload when our storage bank is full – some people more often than others – but it should be done. Venting just feels so good! Telling people what the universe has thrown at you is a bit like throwing it back at the universe. Most of the time, even if your problems don’t resolve, they seem less drastic. Take that, Universe, you dick! This helps me become far less grumpy and it feels good to catch up with my husband or friends.

MOM

GUILTY PLEASURE

We all need one. If you would like to go on in the world without hating everything in it, you need a little bit of time to indulge in something just for yourself. My guilty pleasure is wine, reading or baths. If I can partake in any one of these ALONE, my life is whole and complete. Naturally, I tend to be more of an introvert and really need my alone time to recharge. If I can’t be alone for an hour each day, I die a little and become horribly mean and short tempered. Reminding myself so much of a Snickers commercial. Although I do love Snickers candy bars, I will take a glass of wine, please.

MOM

Some days you may feel completely used up and some days you may be on fire. Life is not perfect and you are not perfect; however, finding some form of “balance” is doable. Even though it can sometimes be hard to maintain, I do think it can be done.

Please share your tips on balancing your life. We would love to hear them!
