Smith here! I don’t know about you but it has taken me a HOT minute to adjust to this “shelter in place” due to the Corona Virus or COVID-19. At first, it didn’t seem real. It just seemed like a very long weekend. Once the reality of it settled in, it was as if I completely forgot how to function! I forgot about productivity and the fact that I still had a business to run. Plus, I finally had the time to catch up on all THE THINGS I always wished I had time to do! You would think that I would be racing to be productive, but I went completely blank. Not to mention the few days I spent binge watching nothing but conspiracy videos!!! Oh man, haha, DO NOT go down that rabbit hole!
I have finally grabbed a hold of my life and put my a$$ in check! Some might say “Finally!” but don’t get too excited. LOL. I am strictly referring to this time of isolation! Below, I’ve listed a few To-Dos that have helped me continue to learn and occupy my time. I hope these help you as well!
(This photo was taken of our reaction to our botched ceremony! LOL! It may not fit this paragraph but it definitely fits our reaction to this year thus far)
Get your bum off the couch!
Let’s start with the obvious…. Exercise! Get outside and soak in some vitamin D. If the weather doesn’t permit then pull up a class on YouTube! Making sure you continue to move is crucial. I’ll do jumping squats at my dog and he will run circles around me! Or even instead of using a mop, I will put towels at my feet and do sliding squats to clean my floors. You could even be like Alycia and squat while you brush your teeth. Yes, she does do this!! It’s these multipurpose discoveries that make you feel even more accomplished through out the day.
Plant a Garden
Planting a garden and growing your own veggies or fruits is a very satisfying feeling. I always wanted to have my own garden, but the excuse was I never had the time. Well, now is the best time! My house is very shadowed so I had to get creative with what I chose to plant. I ordered a grow light from Amazon to help the process along. When I saw those little sprouts of arugula popping out of the soil I was so freaking excited! I grew something, from scratch! Or seed, haha. (please swipe pictures to see) Not only that, but my strawberries are starting to get color and my herbs smell beautiful!! Who would have thought how much happiness that would bring!
Maybe you’re a flower person? Grab some pretty colors of different varieties to plant around your home. I promise it will make you smile and brighten up your day. Surprisingly, it takes up more time then what you would think. I even ended up pulling my dreaded weeds that I’ve been avoiding since we moved in!
Do a puzzle! Or two, or three!
Even though puzzles don’t have you out and about, they stimulate your brain. The greatest part is they are for all ages! You can get a 300 piece, 500, or 1000 plus piece puzzle. I personally have always loved puzzles! They are simple fun, in a sense that you can put on music or a show and grab a cocktail and work away. It’s relaxing, yet activating! Also, with our recent home purchase, we got a pub table that has a checker/chess board on top so Bryce taught me to play chess! I’ve always wanted to learn but was honestly intimidated by all the moving parts. It’s actually so much fun once you learn the way of the game. Who am I?! I’m excited about plants growing and learning chess! Got to love the small things in life.
Embrace the Quarantine
No matter how we feel about this time or what is going on…the fact is we can’t change any of it. So just embrace the quarantine. Laugh at the memes on social and use this time to catch up with our loved ones. The facetimes and zoom calls have been so much fun! A group of girl friends and I have “zoom and zin” dates that are a blast!
Seeing families post about being out together riding bikes, fishing, doing projects have been truly enjoying! Everyone always says “I wish I had more hours in a day!” Well, now we have that time! Maybe not having more hours, but we are finally getting the GIFT of more (uninterrupted) time. I understand that this “time” we are experiencing may not be considered a “gift” as economic uncertainty can cause great financial scares and even job loss. But when you actually pause, and look at this time as a gift, then maybe your outlook and what you do with this time will change your future into something greater! We serve an all knowing God and I believe that His words in Romans 8:28 are true. “And we know that in all things God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love Him…” Especially in this time as it leads up to the Easter season let’s try a little harder to spend the time with God that we have been pushing aside for so long. After all, this is the week in history we have been taught, that Jesus gave his life for us! So let’s remember the fun memories of the past, embrace the present and plan for the future!
